Two weeks ago was my last run - on the treadmill, and it lasted for about 30 minutes until my round ligaments started to pull and hurt. Before that I felt amazing - I haven't really noticed a ton of difference in how my body feels when I run, besides being mentally fatigued and being short of breath easily.
People always mention that I must feel off-balance, carrying all my weight on my front, but I don't. Perhaps my short stature helps with this?
The wheezing is by far the worst part of running pregnant - I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that people walking on the sidewalk in front of me will hear my wheezing behind them, turn around and stop to wait for me to pass. No word of a lie, I sound like an 80-year-old who has been smoking since the age of 10. For real.
I don't know what would be more hilarious: seeing a pregnant woman slogging along (I can only imagine I would look funny, I can neither confirm, nor deny this); or hearing a pregnant woman run.
Not to offend any other pregnant ladies out there, I am merely speaking of me and my ridiculousness.
I even refuse to bust a move lately because I can picture what that would look like - YIKES!
....Alright, back on track here...Besides the wheezing and round ligament pain, I've been enjoying running, as much as I can for as slow as I'm going.
It's really more the mental drag than anything. Running doesn't really seem like a grand old time any more.
The elliptical, however, has been my best friend. That and weight training. I was even able to do a full hour of cardio last week and then weights! And all that at 34 weeks pregnant. Boo-Yeah Grandma!
I haven't been doing the plank as much because the extra weight in my stomach makes my back ache, so I've been doing a lot of my free weight movements by standing on an upside-down Bosu ball, that way it engages my core. I have been amping it up with some squats on the ball. And then squats and lunges around the gym after using the elliptical.
And I haven't noticed any sideways glances about my pregnant ass being in the gym. Finally! Maybe they are used to me there these days...

Side note: I still have more race recaps to come, as well, check out my new MAMAHOOD tab at the top of the page where I will be posting all things baby - more bump pics, and life with baby. Yes, this is a running blog, but clearly, if I can't find time to run, I don't have too much to chat about. Instead, I will use this tab to talk about adjusting to life with baby, fitness with a baby and doing all of this while at times being a single parent - not sure what I mean? Check it out.
